The John S. Toof House was placed on the National Register on Mar. 25, 1982.

History: This house was designed by Mathias Harvey Baldwin and completed in 1876. John Toof was a prominent figure in Memphis who is noted for starting the Chamber of Commerce and later helping to found the Memphis Water Company. The Toof house was designed in the Italianate style with a preference for masonry instead of wood.
