About Memphis Heritage

Keeping Memphis' Story Alive

At Memphis Heritage, we believe that our city’s character is shaped by the places, neighborhoods, and memories we share. Every historic building, every beloved park bench, every block with a story—together, they create the unique tapestry that is Memphis.

Our Mission

Our purpose is simple but profound: to advocate for, support, and sustain Memphis' architecturally and historically significant places. We work side by side with individuals, families, community groups, and local leaders to save, restore, and reinvigorate the spaces that define Shelby County’s past—and its future.

Why Preservation Matters

Imagine Memphis without its icons—Graceland, Victorian Village, the Pink Palace, Beale Street, the Civil Rights Museum. Without these touchstones, our city would lose much of its heart. These landmarks don’t just attract visitors from around the world; they’re woven into our daily lives, offering a sense of pride, beauty, and belonging for everyone who calls Memphis home. In fact, heritage tourism draws nearly one in four visitors to our city.

But preservation is about more than just memories or tourism. Every building saved is a testament to sustainable growth and smart development. Old structures, lovingly reimagined, keep history alive and neighborhoods vibrant. They provide environments that educate, inspire, and foster respect for those who came before us.

Impact Through Community

Historic preservation is a community effort. It strengthens our neighborhoods, brings people together, and makes Memphis an even better place to live, work, and visit. We are driven by the belief that our shared history gives us common ground and shapes a brighter tomorrow.
Let’s save the soul of our city—one place, one story, one future at a time.

How You Can Help

Preservation starts with people. Whether you volunteer, donate, share your family’s historic photos, or simply advocate for a beloved site, your involvement shapes Memphis' future.
