We’re excited to welcome G. Wayne Dowdy, Manager of the Memphis Room at the Main Library, for an informative and engaging lecture on March 12. Mr. Dowdy will introduce attendees to the resources and treasures of the Memphis Room and provide step-by-step guidance on how to use its collections to research the history of your home.

Whether you’re curious about previous owners, architectural details, or the story of your neighborhood, this program will equip you with the tools and knowledge to begin uncovering your home’s unique past.

G. Wayne Dowdy is the senior manager of the Memphis Public Libraries history department. He holds a master's degree in history, is a contributing writer for the Best Times magazine and is an Eagle Scout. Dowdy is the author of nine books including a Brief History of Memphis, and Enslavement in Memphis. He is the 2026 recipient of the Cynthia D. Pitcock History Award.
