History: Lloyd T. Binford, president of the Columbia Mutual Insurance Company, solicited architect Isaac Albert Baum of St. Louis to replicate the Woolworth Building in New York, but on a smaller scale. As a result, the Columbian Mutual Tower is one of the first steel frame skyscrapers to be built in Memphis. The building was damaged by fire in the fall of 2006, but has since been renovated and is currently both a residential and commercial property.
