Memphis Heritage’s 40th Annual Membership Meeting was held on Tuesday, March 31st, 2015 at Howard Hall.
Memphis Heritage receives $1 million donation
An anonymous donor has given Memphis Heritage $1 million for its preservation work, the organization announced Tuesday night at its 40th annual membership meeting.
The unrestricted donation gives the nonprofit organization another tool to help save historic buildings, in addition to its traditional attempts through negotiations, lawsuits and public pressure.
“A personal, anonymous donation is all I can say,” executive director June West said of the gift. “We’re very grateful.’’
Memphis Heritage plans to preserve the principal amount, and won’t use the money to buy endangered property. Instead, it will use the interest income to make grants that help save historic properties.
The first recipient will be Livable Memphis for the MEMFix event in Downtown Memphis’s Pinch District on April 11….full story here: http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/local-news/memphis-heritage-receives-1-million-donation_92328837
WELL WHAT A BIRTHDAY……
Thank to all of you that came to our 40th MHI membership meeting. It was a blast. For those that were out of town, etc. You were missed. For those that are rotating off the Board, we will miss you and hope you will stay involved in a different capacity in the years to come.
We heard from our partner, Varanese Pryor (CEO, Rising Phoenix Development Group) about her plans for the restoration and repurposing of the historic Richard’s House at 975 Peabody Ave. We also heard from our latest intern from Rhodes College, Taylor Jackson, who spoke about our National Register of Historic Places Notebook project.
All of our new Board members were present and are very excited to get started in working to make MHI even better! We have a lot going on over the next 2 months and will be reaching out to the Board to help on these important events!
Thanks again to all of you for your support and dedication to making Memphis Heritage the best it can be!
and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
