After a Decade of Doors, we’re switching things up.
Memphis Heritage’s annual Adapt-A-Door Fundraiser brings large crowds to Howard Hall for the exciting silent auction of artwork and furniture created by local artists, architects, woodworkers and preservation enthusiasts using salvaged doors and windows. Creative works combined with pub grub, drinks and live music lead to an annual auction event like no other that embodies the preservation of our architectural heritage.
In honor of our 10th Annual Adapt-A-Door Fundraiser, we’re expanding our chosen media from doors and windows, to architectural salvage of any kind! Have on old column capital that would make a great table base? Dying to make a sculpture out of historic hinges? This is your year. Additionally, to alleviate the strain of taking on an entire door or other dauntingly large object, we will have several small panels taken from interior doors up for “adapting”.
The auction will be held November 3, 2018, but participating “Door Artists” were invited to choose their architectural item to repurpose at our Door Dash on May 5, 2018.
Did you miss this year’s Door Dash? No worries! You can still sign up to be an Adapt-A-Door & More 2018 Artist! You can pick up a door or window to adapt at Howard Hall, or explore Heritage Building Supply’s extensive inventory of architectural salvage to find something special for this year’s Adapt-A-Door & More event. Please fill out the form below and contact Margot at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 901-272-2727 to arrange pick up of your architectural salvage item of choice. We invite all artists, architects, woodworkers, designers, engineers and creative types to participate in Memphis Heritage’s 2018 Adapt-A-Door & More Design Competition!
Whether you’re a veteran Door Artist or interested in becoming one, here’s how it works:

- After browsing the extensive collection of doors, windows and other architectural items salvaged from historic buildings throughout Memphis, you recycle and transform your find into a fabulous work of art or furniture. Your masterpiece will be auctioned off at the 10th Annual Adapt-A-Door Auction and Party at Howard Hall on Saturday, November 3, 2018.
Cost to enter the competition is $20.00 per door. For the $20.00 commitment fee you will receive two tickets ($150 value) to the Adapt-A-Door Fundraiser auction and party and a one-year Craftsman Level membership to Memphis Heritage ($100 value). Scholarships are available for the commitment, please inquire. Not interested in re-purposing a salvaged architectural item? You may create a “door” from your own materials, using any medium of any size.
