Gallery Opening: Gary Kessel - June 25 through August 23

Memphis Heritage announces the opening reception of a photographic journey celebrating architecture, both local and far away. The exhibition will be presented at the offices of Memphis Heritage, 509 South Main Street starting Friday June 25 continuing through August 23. The opening will take place during the monthly South Main Last Friday Trolley Art Tour from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.  Mr. Kessel  will be on hand to discuss his works and answer questions.  In his own words:

Photography has been an interest of mine since I was very young, but it is only in the last few years that I have pursued it in earnest.  I am self-taught and shoot both in digital and large format film (4x5 inches).   Both mediums have their pluses and minuses so I don’t get hung up on any “purist” film concepts.   To me photography is more about the final image than the process used to capture it.

All aspects of photography intrigue me and I capture images for many varied reasons.  Sometimes the subject matter is the focus; sometimes the color, the composition or just the way the light happens to look.  I like to shoot scenes that convey a sense of the intangible, such as time.  Sometimes it is the abstraction that gets my attention and others times it is just a literal “snapshot” of a subject I like.   The reasons are endless and it is this variety of ways to look at our surroundings that keeps photography a fresh and interesting endeavor for me.  I always shoot images for selfish reasons; things that I want to look at later.  If others then enjoy my “visions”, that is a bonus and just adds to my enjoyment.

All of my prints are Giclée prints using archival inks and paper and are rated to last 100 years.  I do all of my own printing and framing with only a couple of exceptions.  All prints are available in a limited edition of 50.
