Don Newman Photographic Collection Unveiled and Available For Sale
Memphis Heritage celebrated its “official” grand opening with a special
reception at our new location, 509 S. Main Street, on Friday, June 27, from
6 to 9 p.m. The highlight of the gala evening was the introduction
of the Don Newman collection of historic photographs of Memphis and Shelby
County. Memphis Heritage has exclusive rights to market the collection,
and the Memphis Heritage Development Committee has launched a line of proprietary
merchandise using these wonderful 1940s and '50s photos in note cards, posters,
and other items, all of which are available for sale by contacting the Memphis
Heritage office or from The Store on our website.
Special guests at the opening included Mrs. Newman, his daughter and other
family members, as well as other contemporaries of Don Newman who talked
about the historic significance of his photographs. The event coincided
with the South Main District’s “Last Friday Trolley Tours.”
